Selangor Umno to hold rally to condemn Zaid 'slur' against sultan
State Umno chief Noh Omar also wants Zaid Ibrahim investigated under Sedition Act for 'advising' Selangor sultan.
KUALA LUMPUR: Selangor Umno will hold a âHimpunan rakyat, Himpunan Daulat Tuankuâ (Peopleâs rally for the sultan) to condemn an alleged slur on the state ruler, said Selangor Umno chief Noh Omar.
He said the rally was aimed at inspiring Selangor people to rise and defend their ruler.
âWe will hold the gathering in Shah Alam on Sunday in front of the palace. We will ask Selangor to rise up and stand behind the sultan.
âBesides that, we will also make a police report on Zaid Ibrahimâs statement and call for his investigation under the Sedition Act,â he told a press conference at the media centre of the Umno general a ssembly in PWTC here today.
Former minister and current DAP member Zaid Ibrahim was reported to have taken to Twitter to âadviseâ the sultan.
His tweet read: âThe Selangor sultan should be careful with his words. No one is immune when the country burns.â
Zaid was apparently referring to an interview the sultan gave The Star in which the ruler claimed Pakatan Harapan chairman Dr Mahathir Mohamadâs political agenda was motivated by âdeep hatredâ and that âhis anger will burn the whole countryâ.
Noh said it was unfortunate that Selangor Menteri Besar Mohd Azmin Ali did not back the sultan in the issue.
âThe state government has to stand behind the sultan. It was the sultan who picked Azmin and not DAP, so he should have acted on the matter.
âThe state government should have passed a motion to not allow Dr Mahathir to give any ceramah in state government premises.
âIf the MB does not respect the sultan, what more of Zaid? I regret the inaction by Azmin to defend the Sultan.â
