Anthony puzzled as to why focus continues on old issue
Out on bail: Anthony waving to friends after he was released on bail in Kota Kinabalu.
KOTA KINABALU: Parti WariÂsan Sabah vice-president Peter Anthony, who is under probe over a RM155mil land deal in Sabahâs central Tongod district, is puzzled as to why focus is contiÂnually given to an issue that was already probed.
Freed on a RM55,000 bail in one local surety after his seven-Âday remand ended yesterday, Anthony said police had cleared him over the ab orted 2014 land deal with Rubber Industry SmallÂholders DevelopÂment Authority (Risda).
âIâve given my statement to the police previously and was even cleared by the courts in a civil case. I am not involved in the civil case.
âI donât know why I am investigated on this. It is a civil case,â he said at a private hospital here.
Anthony is being investigated for a corruption case involving a RM155mil land deal which was aborted but a 10% or RM15mil deposit was not returned to Risda which is now the centre of the probe.
Lawyer Michael Persius Ubu, whose legal firm acted for Risda, is also being sought by the MACC. He has yet to surrender himself and is believed to be overseas.
Anthony, a close ally and friend of Warisan president Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal, was allowed bail by magistrate Afiq Agoes and was immediately taken to the private hospital for treatment of an undisclosed medical condition.
