Johor Sultan allows Chinese community to pray for peace and prosperity at palace gates
JOHOR BARU: Johor Ruler Sultan Ibrahim Ibni Almarhum Sultan Iskandar allowed a large group of Chinese to pray for peace and prosperity at the gates of Istana Bukit Serene in conjunction with the coming Chinese New Year celebration.
A post on Sultan Ibrahim's official Facebook page Sunday (Feb 4) showed photos of over 2,000 people gathered at the entrance of Istana Bukit Serene along Jalan Danga Bay near the arch on which a replica of the Johor Ruler's Crown is placed.
The group took off their footwear and stood barefooted on the grass patch surrounding the crown arch to meditate and offer prayers.
The scene caught the attention of scores of surprised motorists who slowed down to watch or take pictures.
His Majesty, who was alerted about the gathering, personally came down from the palace, to chat with the group and ascertain their activities.
The Ruler, who has always advocated religious tolerance and harmony under the Bangsa Johor concept, permitted them to proceed with their meditations.
His Majesty also graciously entertained selfie requests from the group.
