MARANG: The tears of an eight-year-old schoolgirl led to the arrest of a suspected paedophile within hours of a police report being lodged.

Terengganu CID chief Asst Comm Fazlisyam Abdul Majid said police nabbed the 20-year old technician on March 27 at his home here.

They also seized two mobile phones, one of which contained 15 videos of the suspect molesting his young victims.

“The suspect would target pupils waiting for their parents to fetch them from school, and approach the victims on the pretext of looking for the toilet,” ACP Fazlisyam said.

After gaining entry into the school toilet, he would start molesting the schoolgirls and record the lewd acts on his mobile phone.

He would then threaten them to keep quiet, and the traumatised young victims would comply.

It is believed that he has been committing these acts since last year.

He has been getting away with it until late March this year, when a scared, tearful eight-year-old victim sought help from a teacher.

The suspect, who is believed to be a college graduate, would target girls between eight and 12 in Marang and nearby Kuala Terengganu.

Police have so far identified about 13 victims, most of them in Marang.

“The case has also caught the attention of Bukit Aman for the most number of victims by one suspect,” ACP Fazlisyam said.

He also advised parents to take better precautions and to listen to their children's troubles.

The case is being investigated for making or producing child pornography and physical sexual assault on a child under the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017.
