Three young children killed as fire razes wooden house in Semporna

KOTA KINABALU: It was a heart-wrenching experience for firemen in Sabah's east coast Semporna district when they retrieved the remains of three children from a razed wooden house in Kg Pegagau Sunday (April 15) night.

Fireman tried valiantly to put out the fire in the hope of finding the children alive but it was not to be.

"The fire was already raging when we arrived but we tried our best," said a firemen at the scene.

The bodies of two girls identified as Puangsa and Emang, and a boy known as Botak, were found close to each other after the fire was put out.

Sabah Fire and Rescue Department operations chief Khatizah Rahaban said they received a call about the blaze at about 7.47pm and sent out a team.

"The charred remains of two five-year-old girls and a three-year-old boy were found after firemen managed to bring the fire under control at about 9pm," she said.

Their bodies were later handed over to the police and sent to the district hospital for post-mortem.

The cause of fire is being investigated.
