JOHOR BARU: Keeping a low profile is all DAP's Skudai assemblyman Dr Boo Cheng Hau wants to do after he failed to make the cut in the DAP Central Executive Committee (CEC) re-election yesterday.

He said the media attention he received since his 'defeat' in the party's special congress came as a surprise to him.

"I have lived a very low profile in the past three to four years to avoid controversies. The last time I appeared on a newspaper's front page headlines was back in 2013, when I had a small misunderstanding with (former Johor PKR chairman) Datuk Chua Jui Meng.

"My defeat at yesterday’s CEC election appeared on Sin Chew Jit Poh’s front p age and it was quite a shock (as it came) with (Lim) Kit Siang’s photo next to mine. I am surprised with the media’s attention on my defeat in the CEC election," Dr Boo told the New Straits Times.

The Sin Chew Jit Poh's report today said that the results of the DAP CEC re-election was almost similar to the results in 2013, except for Dr Boo's exclusion in the latest list.

He did not make the cut in the 20 positions in the CEC, who were voted in by 1,346 delegates yesterday.

This low voter turnout number represented only 53.94 per cent of the total 2,514 DAP delegates.

In 2013, the Registrar of Societies (RoS) ordered DAP to hold re-election for its CEC members following complaints from party members over alleged mishandling of its election on Dec 15, 2012.

These included claims that 753 delegates were not given a chance to cast their votes.

Following the directive, DAP had, on Sept 29, 2013, held a re-election of CEC for the 201 2 term, using the same list of delegates.
