TELUK INTAN: Perak DAP chairman Nga Kor Ming has been confirmed as Pakatan Harapanâs candidate for the Teluk Intan parliamentary seat, setting up a clash with Gerakan president Mah Siew Keong in the coming polls.
Ngaâs candidacy was announced by DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng at a ceramah today, attended by several thousand people.
âThe DAP candidate for Teluk Intan is not a Datuk but he has experience and is willing to work hard for Malaysia.
âWe can win Putrajaya. DAPâs candidate is Nga Kor Ming.â
Nga, the incumbent MP for Taiping, said he b elieved the people were with the opposition.
âI am not rich. I am only the grandson of a rubber tapper and the son of a teacher.
âThe Barisan Nasional candidate is wealthy and holds a high position, but I believe the people are behind us,â he said in reference to Mah, who is plantation industries and commodities minister.
PKR president Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, who was also at the ceramah, urged the people of Teluk Intan to ensure Ngaâs victory.
In the last general election, DAPâs Seah Leong Peng beat Mah with a majority of more than 7,000 votes.
A by-election was triggered following Seahâs death in May 2014.
In the by-election, Mah won the seat with a razor-thin 238-vote majority against DAPâs Dyana Sofya Mohd Daud.
Nga is now the second DAP big gun to take on a BN leader, after Johor DAP chief Liew Chin Tong, who will take on MCA deputy president Wee Ka Siong.
At the ceramah, Nga also sang his anti-GST song , in both Malay and Mandarin.
âEvery night, you must sing this song. Even when you meet your boyfriend or girlfriend, you must sing this song.
âHapus GST, Hapus GST, Undi Harapan,â he sang, after speaking on the goods and services tax, which the opposition plans to abolish within 100 days of it wresting Putrajaya from BN.
Previously, Lim, who is also Penang chief minister, was criticised for singing the anti-GST song, called âABCD GSTâ, at a childrenâs tuition programme organised by the Penang government.
