PH registration approved? Wait, says Saifuddin
However, coalition secretary-general shares a news report saying he had confirmed it.
PH secretary-general Saifuddin Abdullah was non-committal with FMT but reportedly confirmed it with a news portal.
PETALING JAYA: Pakatan Harapan is reported to have been registered as a coalition, almost a year after it had applied, according to an image being circulated of a letter from the Registrar of Societies.
Malaysiakini reported that Pakatan Harapan secretary-general Saifuddin Abdullah had given confirmation, however, he told FMT earlier merely to wait for a statement from the home ministry.
DAPâs Gobind Singh Deo and PPBM legal adviser Mohamed Haniff Khatri Abdulla said they could not confirm the letter. FMT is awaiting a response from the ministryâs secretary-general, Alwi Ibrahim.
Sai fuddin had told FMT in a text message: âPlease wait till tomorrow,â when asked to confirm if registration of the coalition had received the official green light.
Later, on Twitter, Saifuddin shared Malaysiakiniâs tweet on the confirmation, but said Pakatan Harapan had yet to receive any certificate. âWhen contacted, I said to wait for the official statement from the home ministryâs secretary-general,â he said.
Yesterday, PH had said it hoped the registrar would reevaluate its application, and had filed a court challenge against the department for delaying its registration.
The coalition was formed last year, and comprises DAP, PKR, PPBM and Amanah. Without registration, they were unable to contest last weekâs general election as Pakatan Harapan candidates.
Instead, all PH candidates stood for election on the PKR ticket, using the PKR flag as their common election symbol.
