KUALA LUMPUR: Supporters of ousted prime minister Najib Razak have been seen walking in and out of his private residence at Jalan Langgak Duta here as police continue their investigations in the premises.

They include former ministers Azalina Othman, Mahdzir Khalid and Aziz Karpawi. None of them spoke to members of the media who have been encamped outside Najib’s house since the search began on Wednesday night.

Kota Raja Umno committee member Nazilah Idris, however, said she had managed to speak to Najib for a short while, adding that the former Barisan Nasional chairman had remained calm throughout the en tire episode.

“He treated the police at his house well and he never obstructed them.

“Normally if people are guilty or feel guilty, they won’t be so calm,” she told reporters.

She also defended Najib, whom authorities are investigating over links to 1MDB, saying he was an “aristocrat” who had been wealthy even before he became prime minister.

“Why do we want to question the jewellery and bags he has?

“Anyone can buy and wear such brands. There is no need to make it an issue or link it to 1MDB.”

Early this morning, police confiscated 284 handbags, including Birkins, and 72 luggage bags containing cash and jewellery in an operation at three luxury apartments in Bukit Bintang, as part of investigations linked to the state investment arm.

Five Black Maria lorries were needed to cart away a ll the seized goods.
