Travel ban on Zunar lifted

The political cartoonist says his ban on flying out of Malaysia was lifted today.

Zunar shows a ‘before’ and ‘after’ collection of travel bans imposed on him, former PM Najib and wife Rosmah.

PETALING JAYA: Cartoonist Zulkiflee Anwar Haque, better known as Zunar, said the travel ban imposed on him was lifted today.

He described the decision as a twist of fate for former prime minister Najib Razak and his wife Rosmah Mansor.

“At the same time, there’s a travel ban on Najib/Rosmah,” he told FMT.

In October 2016, Zunar was banned from flying to Singapore to attend a forum in the city-state.

Last November, the High Court dismissed his application to lift the travel ban and another application to refer his case directly to the Federal Court.

High Court judge Azizah Nawawi ruled that the court was bound by a Court of Appeal decision in a similar case involving DAP MP Tony Pua.

Najib, who was ousted as prime minister in last week’s polls, was stopped on Saturday, hours before he was to go on “a short break” to be with his family after a bitterly-fought election campaign.

Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad said this had been done on his instructions to stop Najib from travelling abroad.
