Myanmar Police arrests third suspect from drug seizure case in Malaysia

Myanmar Police Force have arrested a third suspect allegedly linked to the record high methamphetamine seizure case in Malaysia.
The third suspect is about 30 years old but the authorities concerned have not yet disclosed anything about him until June 15.
Main suspect Maung Maung aka Hj Yassin and two other suspects from this case of drug seized in Malaysia were produced before Seikkan Township court on June 15 and were remanded for second time.
A police officer from Yangon Police Force said that these three suspects det ained in police custody in connection with this drug case would be put on trial at the district court after being remanded for second time at Seikkan Township court.
The as yet unidentified first suspect was arrested on June 2 and the second and main suspect Maung Maung aka Hj Yassin was arrested on June 5 in the evening at 16th mile-post checkpoint near Patheingyi Township, Mandalay Region. It is learned that Myanmar Police Force and Bureau of Special Investigation (BSI) jointly formed a Special Investigation Team to arrest these suspects.
Malaysian police said on May 28 in press statement that the container with drugs hidden under tea bags was exported from Myanmar and it was found and seized on May 22.
According to the press statement issued by Malaysia, the drugs weigh nearly 1.2 tons and are worth US$ 18 million. This drug seizure is a record-high in Malaysia with 1,187 Kg. International news agencies reported that three Malaysian nationals and two Myanmar nationals were arrested in connection with this case.
